“If there is no me, there is no him.”

The above quote teaches us something very important about relationships. That is, if we don’t know who we are, we have no starting point for being able to really know someone else.

Think about it – it’s true. If you say to someone ‘I love you’, but you have only a very vague idea of who “I” is, than who is the “I”, and if you don’t know who the “I” is, how can you have a relationship with another? (What’s love anyway? That’s a topic we’ll address in the near future). In fact how can you have any type of conversation with anyone, including yourself, that begins with “I” (as in ‘I love you, I want to, etc.)? The short, I don’t know how sweet, but true answer is, you can’t! Or at least if you did, you’d have to recognize that it can’t be a genuine interaction. In order to have a genuine interaction with other people you have to first be in a genuine interaction with yourself.

Most of us don’t have a connection with our true selves and I’ll tell you why.

My 18 month old daughter has a relatively real connection with herself. The reason is that the left side of her brain has not yet begun to develop, although according to nature it soon will. The reason this enables her to have a more genuine connection with herself and others is that the left side of the brain is responsible for storytelling with words, and since that ability has not fully developed within her, she is still sticking to nature’s script for who she is. She knows herself to be that way and so do the others in her life. No one would doubt it.

The caveat is this. I need your attention, your patience, and your calm and curious mind. Because my goal is not to have you know this stuff in your head, but to have your heart and soul resonate with what I’m going to teach you, so you can internalize it and live it. Let’s face it. Our society is great at learning things with our heads, our intellect, at analyzing and dissecting ideas. But in the end scene of this story of our lives, who is going to be the one to ride the waves? Think. Will it be the one who goes to surfing school and uses their mind to understand the theory of waves, or the one who takes what they know and experiences it through getting on a surfboard? That guy who is actually using his whole body is riding the waves, and through his hands on experience he continues to see what is effective and what is not, and each time he rides he rides higher and longer, he gets better!

Relationship, my friends, is an art. Creating a relationship goes way beyond looking for and finding your Prince or Princess. You have to know where to begin forming the relationship, have a clear picture of what a complete ending looks like, and then know how to connect the dots.

Most amazingly and perhaps the biggest benefit to consciously learning how to create a true loving relationship is that you will end up actualizing your amazing potential as a human being. Because loving another begins with understanding and actualizing yourself. There is no place to begin building if not with self- understanding and developing your most Divine qualities. And so even if it makes the process of finding your soul mate a little less quick, I can guarantee that you will grow and take pride in yourself like no other ‘find your soul mate’ program you’ve ever been part of before! And you will be set up for success in truly finding, recognizing and building an eternal loving connection with the person of your dreams.
